When the Serisans, the first humans, came to Aroa, it was said that their original homeland was dying. Food and water become scarce, and preparations to leave begun. By the time they had made enough ships to sail across the sea to the elven land of Hyranthyr, sickness or starvation had taken half of their number. Seeing their plight, the elves of Hyranthyr gifted them land and sanction in the east of Aroa, allowing them to make a new life.

The continent split into two countries: Hyranthar would remain the land of the elves and Althausia would become the land of the humans. In the centuries that follow, Althausians were taught about elvish culture and religion, creating a mix of their own history with that of their generous saviors. While not all Althausians worship their own collection of deities or the elven gods, most remain still thankful for the second chance the elves provided so long ago.

Peace reigned – until the Otreins came 116 years ago. Hyranthyr and Althausia locked themselves in battle with these stalwart, militant, and scientific faction of humans. What started out as combative rapidly became bloody and deceitful, as war was seen blooming all throughout the central region of the continent. Neither side saw the victory they sought, forcing them to resolve to something of a stalemate, and after the war was declared as officially over, the Otreins were allowed to maintain a couple of coastal settlements on Aroa (commonly known as the Otrein Territory). This truce was brokered as a show of “good faith” by the King and Queen of the Elves, who maintain that the benefits of working together far outweigh the strain of waging war against that of the corruptive supernatural.

Before it had turned their eyes to Aroa, Otrein was mostly at war with Nasat, a desert country that has long withstood invasion by others. The Otreins had found little purchase against Sijan, an insular and isolated country in a constant state of civil war since the death of its last Emperor almost 300 years ago. The Otreins themselves are made up of various people from lands the original tribes conquered throughout the centuries – most prominently the dwarven empire of Gemhelm. Only in the 300 years have they learned to travel the seas, rather than simply raiding the coasts of their own continent, Zokias.

Ever since the surge of magic that erupted throughout the world 500 years ago, known as the Bloom, all mortals of the world have been on edge, with tales of abominations and monstrosities that have begun to be witnessed in numerous tales. Supernatural creatures of varying kinds have seemingly been born from this cataclysmic event, bringing about an uncertain change as to how the world was before their existence. They've influenced mortals to become even more distrusting of not only each other but other supernaturals who have found themselves a foothold in one form or another within present day. Many wonder if another surge is not inbound and, if so, who then knows what could become of mortals and other beings that reside in the world known as Gelanos?
