Echoes is a Fae/fantasy Roleplay forum that opened in early February 2024. We are an AU community loosely based on the book series 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' by Sarah J Maas. Our story takes place generally around the time of the first book, before any kind of war with Hybern. However we do not strictly follow the plot or timeline of any of the books directly but only use them as loose inspiration to generate our play. It generally follows a fantasy tone when it comes to buildings and clothing with modern-ish touches like indoor plumbing, heating and lighting that runs on magic.

Our major site wide plot now vibes with just after the first book where the evil Queen has been slain and Prythian is free of her cruelty. We take our own AU Adventure here by bringing back the eighth court - the Dusk court but they're not what you expect!

Fae Beliefs

"Cauldron save you.
Mother hold you.
Pass through the gates, and smell that immortal land of milk and honey.
Fear no evil.
Feel no pain.
Go, and enter eternity."

The Mother is one of the divine entities of the faeries. She was the one that spilled the Cauldron's content creating Prythian and all the known world. It is said she has a dark counterpart called the Dark Mother.

"Long ago, before the High Fae, before man, there was a Cauldron. They say all the magic was contained inside it, that the world was born in it. But it fell into the wrong hands. And great and horrible things were done with it. Things were forged with it. Such wicked things that the Cauldron was eventually stolen back at great cost. It could not be destroyed, for it had Made all things, and if it were broken, then life would cease to be. So it was hidden. And forgotten. Only with that Cauldron could something that is dead be reforged like that."

The Cauldron is a powerful magical artifact that is said to have been used to create life. A magical Cauldron with the cosmic matter from which the world where Prythian originated from. The Cauldron, in order to function must be supported on its three feet, and as a way to prevent its power from being used in a bad way, the Fae from other worlds created the Book of Breathings, written in the Holy Tongue or Leshon Hakodesh. In it, explanations are given on how to nullify the power of the Cauldron. The book was divided into two parts and after the War between Fae and mortals, a part was given to the High Lord of the Summer Court for his care and the other was given to the Mortal Queens of that time. The part of the mortal queens could only be given to the Fae with free will since if one tried to steal it with magic or spell the queens to give it up, that half would be destroyed.

The power of the Cauldron can revive dead people if their souls were preserved and it also allows mortals to become Fae if they have sufficient willpower. With the power of the Cauldron you can also destroy the Wall that was erected between the Fae kingdoms of the north and the Mortal Lands of the south. When seperated from the main portion of the Cauldron, the three feet of the Cauldron were given to the Priestess and kept in three different temples.

The Cauldron can do the following: Raise the dead. Turn Mortals into Fae. Shatter powerful magic spells and wards. Burn living creatures into ash within seconds with an attack that contains the same heat and light as the sun. Create wicked creatures and objects.

Faerie Celebrations

Each individual court has their own special ways of celebrating different holidays and events unique to their own courts. Here is a list of Holidays and when they occur;

  • Nynsar - Nynsar is said to roughly occur around mid to late March. It is known as the Day of Seeds and Flowers except for the Night Court. It is a spring holiday to celebrate the end of seeding the fields and to pass out the first flower clippings of the season.
  • Starfall - Starfall falls on the same day as Nynsar (in mid to late March) but is the Night Courts own unique celebration for when the yearly migration of spirits is seen across the sky. It is breathtakingly beautiful. Like a spray of shooting stars taking over the sky and it is only possible to witness it while in the Night Court during this time
  • Calanmai - Calanmai (pronounced: Cal-an-may), also called Fire Night. Takes place May 1st. On Fire Night, various celebrations occur, including lighting bonfires, the playing of drums, and the Great Rite. The crops depend upon the magic in the Great Rite on Fire Night. The great rite is the act of the High Lord allowing powerful magic to enter their bodies and seize control of them, causing them to attempt to find the Maiden and have sex with her to release magic that will spread through the lands and allow crops to grow until the next Calanmai. It is a very sexual celebration where many High Fae and Lesser Fae participate in their own physical dalliances in belief it will help enhance the magic requires to fertilize the land, grow seed and harvest healthy crops through to the following Calanmai.
  • Summer Solstice/Midsumer - Around June 21st. Most highly celebrated by the Summer court but is celebrated through as minor holidays throughout all of them. The Solstice indicates when day and night are equal, it's a time of neutrality, when everyone can take down their hair and simply enjoy being faerie.
  • Autumn Equinox - The Autumn Equinox happens around Sept 22nd and is a major celebration of the Autumn Court. It is a celebration tthat honours the harvest and has many feasts, a lot of drinking and dancing as the Fae celebrate the wealth of the earth.
  • Winter Solstice - Winter Solstice occurs on December 21st, the longest night of the year and is the major celebration for the Winter Court, Day Court and Night court - while all courts celebrate it in general. It is considered one of the most important festivities held in the Courts of Prythian and celebrates the passing from one year to the next. To help celebrate, people will often decorate with boughs of evergreen wreaths and gardlands. They will also get together, feast and exchange gifts.
  • Human Beliefs

The humans in Prythian have no religion or no gods they can remember. They have nothing to swear by and no one to pray to. Stripped of their beliefs, back in a time when they were slaves to the Fae folk.

Though they have no religion or Gods to worship, they do celebrate some holidays similar to the Faes. Winter Solstice is celebrated in the Mortal Lands where the highest classes attend balls and parties. The Summer Solstice is also celebrated in the Mortal Lands with small gatherings in the center of the villages where they just share food, enjoy ale and maybe indulge in some music and line dancing.
