Echoes is a Dark, Fae/fantasy Roleplay forum. We are an AU community based on the book series 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' by Sarah J Maas. Our story takes place generally around the time of the first book, before any kind of war with Hybern. However we do not strictly follow the plot or timeline of any of the books directly but only use them as loose inspiration to generate our play. It generally follows a fantasy tone when it comes to buildings and clothing with modern ish touches like indoor plumbing, heating and lighting that runs on magic.

After the War 500 years ago, a Dark High Fae known as Mishanti came to Prythian. A former War general to the King of Hybern himself. She used her silver tongue and cunning to trick the High Rulers of that time with her charm and bewitching nature and managed to entrap their powers through a curse. Granting her the High Ruler power of all seven courts and naming herself High Queen of Prythian.

Mishanti has ruled 'Under the Mountain' in what's known as the 'Infernal Court' for fifty years now and through that she has not only destroyed cities in every court but also caused as mass wave of suffering throughout all the courts through her cruel and brutal machinations. However, there were growing whispers about an attempt to try and over throw her. That there were those in the courts still brave enough to dare try to raise their hand against her. That certain High Lords have begun plotting ways to try and get their powers back by breaking the spell she set upon them.

Now, those rumors have come to fruition and after finding and deciphering the powerful Grimoire Mishanti used to curse the High Rulers with originally - a group of brave fae set out to undo it at long last. Casting a spell to break the curse, the High Ruler magic was freed and returned back to each court Ruler and Mishanti was slain. The remnants of her Infernal court are on the run and the High Rulers work to not only manage their Courts but the wildness of their magic as it has returned as well.

The City of Velaris is still a closely guarded secret by the High Lady of the Night Court and her inner circle - not even the wicked Fae of the Hewn City know about it. Not to mention there are also whispers of an eighth court that lurks in the Shadows, waiting for the right moment to reveal itself to Prythian...
